Northwest Minnesota Arts Council

Promoting, stimulating, and supporting arts activities in northwestern Minnesota!

Awarding arts grants, providing arts services, coordinating arts advocacy, and generally promoting appreciation and participation in the arts – all are goals of the Council.

Thanks for visiting our website!

Our most recent posts can be found here.  We post up information about webinars, artists and events! Check back often as new posts are put up every week!

Quick links: Highlights of our site include our arts grant applications, our art exhibit information, access to our current publications and plans, and our artist directories.

This site is mainly a guide and resource to our programs and services.

Remember to check the calendar page for a quick list of upcoming important dates.

We also offer an e-newsletter and would strongly encourage you to sign up for up-to-date announcements.

Community Supported Art is available now!  Information may be found on this page, or in this post.

Funding for our programs comes primarily from the Minnesota State Legislature.  This web site is partly possible through funding from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund as appropriated by the Minnesota State Legislature with money from the vote of the people of Minnesota on November 4, 2008. We encourage you to become active in arts advocacy in Minnesota at Minnesota Citizens for the Arts (MCA) web site.  If you are appreciative of our service, staffing, and grant programs, it is very important to let our legislators know. The Northwest Minnesota Arts Council is one of eleven regional arts councils or RACs in Minnesota.  All eleven councils work together with our fiscal agent the Minnesota State Arts Board (MSAB) to provide arts services, staffing, and grants throughout this wonderful state. Our second, very important funder is The McKnight Foundation.  Serving artists is our shared goal!  We look forward to helping artists grow and prosper in our area through financial support and leadership training, and new opportunities to showcase and promote their art. We are looking for more ways to partner and grow, and to diversify our Arts Council and our funding.  If you have a good idea please share it within a post. We are excited to serve this northwestern region of Minnesota!  We warmly welcome you to our website.

  1. Hi! I’m originally from Stephen, Minnesota–now living in Wisconsin with my husband and children. I was active with NWMAC while in high school–Polly Peterson was an amazing art & design teacher & truly an inspiration. After graduation, I went to Florence, Italy to continue studying art and later earned a B.F.A. from Savannah College of Art & Design. Now an Art Director in the Marketing Department at Kohl’s Department Stores, Inc., and an active abstract artist and creative writer, I feel strongly that the competitive opportunities I received from NWMAC and the absolute passion instilled in my soul via my high school art teacher were the pivotal starting points of my artistic lifestyle & creative career. I am very sad to hear that Stephen-Argyle Central no longer offers a visual arts program for the students. Are there any opportunities for NWMAC ‘alumni’ to get involved with promoting the everlasting value of art in education? Let me know if there’s anything I can do to help bring visual art back to students in small NWMN communities. Thanks!

    1. Hi Kat!

I will pass your name on to our Executive Director and have her get in contact with you!
