For the second year, the Thief River Falls Area Community Theater is set to host the Fargo-Moorhead Young Performers Opera on March 5th in Thief River Falls. Workshops conducted by the performers will be offered to area school children during the day, with a public concert that evening in the beautiful sanctuary of St. Bernard’s church. The evening concert will begin at 7:00 p.m. Admission is $10 or free with a 2020 TRF Concert Series ticket. Admission is also free of charge for all youth aged 18 and under.
The Gate City Bank Young Artist Program was founded in 2013. The goal of the Young Artist Program is to enrich young artists through training and stage experience that will enhance their performing abilities from guest artists, stage directors and the FM Opera General Director, David Hamilton. Performers are selected by audition nationwide.
Now in its seventh year, this program is the first of its kind in the region, bringing groups of young professionals to the area from mid-January through April of each year. The Young Artists will also be featured in two Fargo Moorhead Opera productions in the 2019-2020 season: lead roles in Michael Ching’s “Speed Dating Tonight!” and roles in Mascagni’s “Cavalleria Rusticana”.
The evening concert will include a variety of musical selections, from opera to musical theater, with possibly some pop tunes thrown in. This concert is an excellent way to discover what opera is about and is appropriate and enjoyable for the entire family.
