Percentage Art Program: Call for Existing Art
The Itasca Community College (ICC) Percent for Art Committee is seeking submissions of original artwork to purchase for permanent exhibit on the Itasca Community College Campus in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. The college has just completed a new Liberal Arts Academic Classroom Building and intends to install the artwork in the public hallways within the building.
The artwork will be placed in the newly constructed Liberal Arts Building. This one story building hosts classes such English, history, computer science, philosophy, mathematics, and sociology; this coursework prepares students to deal with complexity, diversity, and change, and provides them with comprehensive knowledge of the wider world.
Project Themes and Objectives
Artists should take into account the mission of ICC and the nature of the teaching and learning that occurs in the Liberal Arts building. The artwork should also enhance and beautify the facility, be thought-provoking but not confrontational, and bring about an appreciation for art. Culturally diverse art is encouraged. The art must be durable, low-maintenance, safe, and original.
Request for Existing Art
Itasca Community College Percent for Art Committee is seeking several ready-to-display pieces that reflect the theme of the building. The committee will consider both individual pieces and collections. Portfolios should contain a minimum of:
- Cover letter with contact information
- Digital Images in standard JPEG format, 1920 x 1920 pixels, stored on a CD or DVD (websites, slides, PowerPoint or emailed /website portfolios will not be considered)
- Price listing, including title, dimensions and description of the work
- Self-addressed envelope (if the artist would like materials returned)
Artist’s submissions will be reviewed by a committee of ICC employees and a representative of the art community.
Materials must be received by Friday, April 10, 2015 to be considered.

Any Minnesota artist is eligible for this request. All applicants are encouraged to visit the Liberal Arts building Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (except holidays).
The purchased artwork will be placed in the new Liberal Arts Building on the Itasca Community College Campus and is made possible through the Minnesota Percent for Art in Public Spaces program. In 1983, the Minnesota State Legislature enacted a law which states in part that “an appropriation for the construction or alteration of any state building may contain an amount not to exceed the lesser of $100,000 or one percent of the total appropriation of the building for the acquisition of works of art…”
