(Warren, MN) – The Northwest Minnesota Arts Council (NWMAC) is delighted to announce a Retrospective Exhibit of works by Irene Bertils of Crookston, Minnesota. Ms. Bertils’ artworks will be showcased in our East Grand Forks gallery Wednesday, January 13, 2016, through Sunday, February 28, 2016.
“Art has always been a constant in my life,” says the artist. “I can’t remember a time that I haven’t been drawing or painting.”
Growing up near Moorhead, Irene studied briefly at Minnesota State University Moorhead. She went on to nursing school, becoming an LPN. Irene then moved to Crookston where she married, and raised her family. She lives on a small farm outside of town with her husband and the youngest of their four children. Throughout all these years, Irene has continued creating art.
Irene’s work with art includes teaching art to homeschooled children; creating private and public murals and other commissioned pieces; and illustrating for a national woodcarving magazine. NWMAC knows Irene’s work well through our spring Regional Exhibits which she has entered many times, often receiving awards or honors.
The works Irene selected for this exhibit include twenty-five pieces created in a wide variety of media showing the depth of her artistic ability. Her artworks, include watercolor, acrylic, charcoal, pastel, glass mosaic, and pencil, all depicting people and scenes from her life and surroundings.
A reception for the artist will be held Saturday, February 13, 2016, at the gallery from 3:30 – 5:00 p.m. Gallery hours are Wed. through Sat., 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., and Sun., 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. The Arts Council gallery and River Walk Artists shop & gallery are located in the River Cinema mall, East Grand Forks, across the street from Cabela’s and next to Mamma Maria’s Restaurant.
