This activity is funded, in part, by a grant from the Northwest Minnesota Arts Council and the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund as appropriated by the Minnesota State Legislature with money from the vote of the people of Minnesota on November 4, 2008.

Help Send our Students to Camp!

Northwest Minnesota Arts Council  needs your help.  The Minnesota State Legislature made a policy restriction to general funding in 2013.  This new policy only allows out of state travel and training costs of up to 10% of the grant amount per grantee.

Why is this an issue?

Traditionally, NWMAC has awarded grants to students to go to camp in North Dakota at International Music Camp, as well as other camps through out the United States.  This policy change would not allow NWMAC to give students small $500.00 grants, we would be limited to $50.00.

NWMAC has partnered with GiveMn.org to create a fundraiser to raise $3000.00 to send 6 students to camp outside the state of Minnesota.  Last year, NWMAC sent 7 students to IMC.  They studied in drama, creative writing, instrumental music and voice.

Alex Conwell of Red Lake Falls went to the Mark Wood Rock Orchestra Camp in Kansas!  He area of study is the violin.  He had this to say:

Receiving the grant greatly reduced the already high cost to to MWROC, a wonderful music camp, where I made good friends, high-up music contacts, learned to be a better player and had fun!–Alex Conwell
