JanetJohnson+CollaborationsWall(Warren, Mn) – The Northwest Minnesota Arts Council (NWMAC) proudly announces an exhibit of mixed-media artworks by Janet Johnson of Malung, Minnesota, and Karen Monson, formerly of Greenbush, MN. Their exhibit, Two Friends: Collaborations will be open from Saturday September 26th through Sunday, October 25th in our East Grand Forks gallery in Riverwalk Centre Mall.

Janet Johnson, is a renaissance woman of the arts. A proficient ceramics artist and painter, Janet retired from teaching Visual Arts and English in Warroad, MN in 2013, and participated for 8 years in the statewide Arts Best Practice and Quality Teaching networks, where she met Karen Monson. Janet also served on the panel for the development of the ArtsConnectEd program.

She is currently developing an art space, workshops, and events in a rural school building purchased by Malung Township to use as a community center.  She works closely with the Region 1 Arts Council, and strongly supports the arts at the Roseau County Fair, while also organizing and teaching group lessons with a friend.

Collaboration_ WhatSayestThou_2Karen Monson’s ties to Greenbush began with her parents, Dr. Lloyd Klefstad, and her mother, Helen, who established the first clinic in the Greenbush area and rebuilt the hospital. Monson, instructor emerita at the Perpich School in visual arts, says, “I am inspired by nature and the physical qualities of a variety of mediums.  Playfulness is important. … This series of work with Janet has been joyful, challenging and enlightening.  It has been a no holds barred visual conversation.  We have played, conversed, wondered and interacted in a realm both of us consider, on some level, sacred–our life in art and as friends.”

Two Friends: Collaborations will be displayed in the NWMAC gallery inside River Walk Artists Shop and Gallery from Saturday, September 26 to Sunday, October 25, 2015.

Gallery hours are Wednesday through Saturday, 3:00 to 7:00 pm, and Sunday, 2:00 to 5:00 pm. The Arts Council gallery and River Walk Artists shop & gallery are located in the River Cinema mall. Park in the large lot to the north and enter the mall door: we are the first door on the right.

We welcome private showings, and are happy to answer any questions. For more information or a private showing, call the arts council office at 218-745-9111; or you may contact the gallery coordinator at 218-965-4216, or email: tmjacobson16@gmail.com.
