The Northwest Minnesota Arts Council is pleased to announce that the 4th edition of our Artists of Northwest Minnesota booklet is available for retail locations and others who are interested. This is a marketing booklet that will be distributed throughout our region.
The booklet includes information about a variety of creative people and artists, including visual artists, dancers, bands, musicians, performing artists, and theater directors, editors, writers and fine crafters. The booklet helps those who are listed reach out to the general public and is a means to help the public “get in touch with them” to purchase art, book them, or have them provide a service.
Arts organizations, dance studios, stores with local art, local suppliers of supplies and materials for artists, coffee shops that have open mic or live bands often, etc. are included in the back of the booklet.
Please let us know if you would like copies to distribute or for yourself. To view the booklet online click here.

(Thief River Falls, Mn) – The stage is built, the costumes are fitted, and the lights are focused: the Thief River Falls Area Community Theater is making final preparations for their Summer Theater Arts Review (STAR) program premiere:
Seussical Jr. , opens Tuesday, August 4 and will run for three performances!
Seussical Jr., written by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens, is a Broadway show based on the books by Dr. Seuss. While the books Horton Hears a Who and Horton Hatches an Egg are the basis of the plot, many other characters, such as The Grinch and Yertle the Turtle, show up in the show. It’s a lively musical romp that was written and intended for audiences of all ages.
This is the first time the TRFACT has produced a show in which the entire cast is made up of teens. It is group- directed by Jane Anderson, Sherry Knott, Lacey Simoneau, Kristin Buckley, and Phil McKenzie. The cast has been learning the dialogue and music from the show in a workshop atmosphere, in which they are taking individual voice lessons, given small-group dance instruction, and are working on large group improvisation and theater basic skills.
According to Jane Anderson, TRFACT executive director,
“Musical theater requires a combination of many skills. Oftentimes in the theater, we focus on only learning the lines of dialogue and the notes to the songs. But there is so much more. Movement, character development, and really learning how to ‘play’ on stage are what make a good actor a great actor. That’s what we are trying to do with students in this program.”
Members of the cast of Seussical Jr. were selected by audition and include (character, name and grade in school) Cat in the Hat: Tyler Sele (10); Jojo: Ethan Osowski (6); Horton: Isaiah Burkel (2015 grad);
Members of the ensemble playing Whos, Jungle Citizens, Fish, and Wickershams are Breanna Lee (6); Peyton Casteel (8); Grace Bohnenkamp (6); Ella Budish (7); Becca Ballard (6); Devyne Sieckert (6); Eleanor Brickson (6); Kaitlyn Johnson (8); Molly Halsa (8); and Emma Anderson (9).
Performances for Seussical Jr. will take place at the Northland College Theater on August 4, 5, and 6 at 7 p.m. each evening. Because of a generous Legacy grant from the Northwest Regional Arts Council, tickets are reasonably priced at $10 for Adults and $6 for children ages 12 and under. The show runs approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes with an intermission, so it is the perfect venue for small children. (But it will entertain adults, as well!)
Tickets are available at Hugo’s in Thief River Falls and at Digikey Corporation during business hours. Tickets are also available at the door each night of the performance.
