2019 NW Annual Art Exhibit

NW Minnesota Art Exhibit 2019

This year the annual Art Exhibit, featuring art from a variety of mediums, will be in Badger at the Community Hall, 203 N Main St, Badger, MN  56714 and runs from Wednesday, March 20 through Sunday, March 31, 2019. Hours are 10:00 am to 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm to 7:00pm on weekdays, Saturdays from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm, and Sundays from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm. 

The Annual Art Exhibit features 100 pieces of visual art, photography, and fine craft from38 adults and 31 high school student artists from our 7 county service region competing for $2,300.00 in cash awards. Attendees at the exhibit will also be able to vote for People’s Choice. Exhibit cash award winners will be chosen while the exhibit is on display by Holly Alcott, a qualified juror from Shevlin, Minnesota. They will be recognized and receive their check at the Artist Reception. 

NW Art Exhibit at the Badger Community Hall 2019

The Artist Reception will be at the Badger Community Center, 111 N Main St, Badger, MN  56714 on Sunday, March 31, 2019. Artist of the Year and Arts Advocate of the Year Awards, and the Northwest Star Artist lifetime achievement award will be presented at that time. The artist reception program begins promptly at 3:00pm and ends around 4:00pm. Refreshments will be served starting at 2:15 at the community center prior to the program. People’s choice voting will end promptly at 2:45 on the day of the reception, in order to count ballots. Local entertainment will be featured during the program. The Creative Minnesota survey results for our region will be presented. We are proud of the economic impact of the arts in Region 1.

The Exhibit and Reception is open to the public and free to attend. Many pieces of art are for sale and the public is encouraged to shop. Purchases can be marked as sold and picked up on March 31 at the reception. The reception is a wonderful day of celebrating the arts in our region with a usual attendance of about 200 people. Please feel welcome to attend.

Call for Artwork

Centennial Library seeks to purchase ten artworks to display on the non-fiction shelves. The Selection Committee will categorize the artworks by the Dewey Decimal system for placement throughout the shelves. Custom display boxes are being fabricated to fit within the shelves. Additional considerations:

  • Artwork must fit within the fabricated boxes. 
    • Outside dimensions of the box: 13 ¾” (w) x 10 5/8” (h) x9 13/16” (d)
    • Inside dimensions of the box: 11 3/8” (w) x 8 ¼” (h) x 9” (d)
    • Walnut plywood exterior with solid walnut frame on the front, birch plywood interior.
  • Artwork can be 2D or 3D
  • Artwork creates a sense of wonder and curiosity within visitors to the library, and inspires them to explore the library
  • Artwork can be new or previously created. Previously created artworks cannot be committed to other shows or exhibitions. Artwork will be purchased outright by the Library.
  • Artworks should be durable and low maintenance
  • Artwork may be representational or abstract. The use of commercial imagery is discouraged.

Artists based in Minnesota age 16 and older are invited to apply. Artists can submit more than one artwork for consideration. We are committed to a policy of providing opportunities to people regardless of economic or social status and will not discriminate on the basis of race, color, ethnic origin, national origin, creed, religion, political belief, sex, sexual orientation, marital status, age, veteran status, or physical ability. 

SUBMISSION DETAILS
Interested artists are invited to submit materials for review by January 7, 2019 at 4:30pm CST.

Each participating artist will receive a stipend of $750.

ARTic Lights & Libations in Hallock — Local Art for Sale

ARTic Lights & Libations is Saturday, December 8!  Downtown Hallock

Glowing lights in the dark.

ART local artists will have art on display for sale at Zedge Beauty Lounge. Want to sell your art? Contact Alaina at zedgebeautylounge@gmail.com. 6-9pm. Other businesses may be open with art for sale.
LIGHTS – Holiday Lighting Contest will be judged with top three winners announced; a guided tour will leave from the gazebo every 20-30 mins from 6-9PM. 
LIBATIONS A variety of business will be pouring special drinks and/or offering hot beverages for their customers/guests from 6-9 pm.
ACTIVITIES FOR KIDS –  Shamrock Lanes & Grill is hosting ornament decorating for kids from 3-5pm.  Santa will be coming  to the Bean & Brush at 5:30 pm.

Call to Artists: ARTic Lights & Libations in Hallock

The second annual ARTic Lights & Libations will be held in Hallock on Saturday, December 8 from 6-9 pm. They are seeking artists to display and sell their art.
The event includes a holiday light contest, carolers/singers at the gazebo, horse and carriage rides, Santa, and more. Local businesses will be open and holding special events.

Northwest Minnesota Arts Council Traveling Art Exhibit Visits Ada

The NWMAC sponsors an annual Traveling Art Exhibit, which visits northwest Minnesota communities throughout the year. The exhibit includes 15 original pieces of art by regional adult artists, chosen from works submitted for our annual juried exhibit. The exhibit is currently at the Ada Public Library until November 2.
