The newest installation in the Northwest Minnesota Arts Council Gallery is a collection of artworks by high school students from Greenbush-Middle River and East Grand Forks.
Student Showcase includes acrylic paintings, charcoal drawings, watercolor paintings, and oil paintings by students in grades ten through twelve, taught by teachers Deb Aune (GMR) and Erin Nelson (EGF), who both exhibited their work here last summer together.
Subject matter ranges from wild animals to self-portraits, and a few floral impressions as well. The students’ mastery of simple graphite and charcoal captures contrasts in animal dispositions, while bright colors exude floral and facial expressions.
The exhibit Student Showcase will be available for public viewing until April 14th. Located in the River Walk Centre in East Grand Forks, the gallery is within the River Walk Artists gallery, 211 Demers Avenue. Hours are Wednesday through Saturday 2 p.m. to 8 p.m, and Sunday 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The NWMAC gallery is proud to present an exhibit of artworks, Gravestones and Clay, from January 16th to March 4th by two accomplished women who both hail from Crookston, Minnesota.
Heather Sabian is a painter, sculptor, and sketch artist, who creates grave stone paintings. Using her own technique Heather gathers botanical designs, embellishing them with acrylic paint after mounting them onto wood panels. Her works evoke quiet peacefulness while inviting the viewer to explore deeper in each piece.
Jenn Steinbrink’s Krazy Kiln is the source of many ceramic items used everyday in homes near and far. But every day can be whimsical, as the name Krazy Kiln suggests. Jenn produces tumblers, pie plates, mixing bowls, and pitchers along side her amazing wine goblets, loopy wine racks, stocky vases, and carved-rimmed pasta dishes, all completed with a rich glazing unique to Krazy Kiln.
A reception for the artists will be held on March 1st from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the gallery in conjunction with the River Walk Artists. Refreshments will be served. Music will be provided by Tom and Jeanne O’Neil.

The Northwest Minnesota Arts Council opened a gallery the end of 2011 within the River Walk Artists’ shop in East Grand Forks. The end of 2012 heralds our first year of bringing exhibits of works created by northwest regional artists to the public.
During warmer weather, new exhibits were installed monthly, allowing some artists the opportunity to participate in the Art & Wine Walk as featured artists. From November to January, our second annual Holiday Exhibit took place showcasing works by twelve different artists. In 2013, from January to May, exhibits will run slightly longer than one month before we return to our warm-weather schedule of month-long installations.
