When poet John Minczeski of COMPAS visited Roseau School as a resident writer in March, he taught the students how to write poetry about things they were familiar with, things all around them, things that they did every day. Fourth grade students of Roseau School discovered that they find inspiration in ice cream, swimming, zebras, bicycles, puppies, camping, volleyball, and that they can write about these things, too.
The students’ writing is clever and colorful, and was displayed prominently near the theater for the elementary spring music program. Principal Elwyn Ruud proudly tells, “It is amazing how many staff and students stop to read them.” She praises their resident writer and students: “The fourth graders and John Minczeski did a GREAT job!”
