In the months leading up to East Grand Forks’ 125th anniversary in August 2012, the Campbell Public Library is celebrating with activities for residents of all ages. Authors and publishers, visual artists and musicians are all participating with the library staff in the year-long recognition of the city’s quasquicentennial that will culminate with an original History of EGF DVD, and a book signing by Warren Strandel.
Strandel, a former newspaper publisher in East Grand Forks, has written a history of the city through the eyes of those who fought the flood to restore the town. The celebration of the town’s milestone anniversary will include visits with regional authors and school age children in the library.
A writer’s workshop presented by Linda Lein, on March 24th, 2012, explored the following facets of the writing process: prewriting, drafting, revising and publishing. Lein is a writing instructor at Minnesota State University Moorhead. Other events included are the Readers Theater performing regional pieces, model-making for youngsters, and a Fancy Nancy Tea for young people and their parents.
These activities are funded in part by a grant from the Northwest Minnesota Arts Council and the Minnesota arts and cultural heritage fund as appropriated by the Minnesota State Legislature.
