Fellowship Applications Open At Tofte Lake Center — Emerging Artist Applications Open Soon

Tofte Lake Center Opportunities

Looking for an opportunity to get away, spend time outdoors and have time to create your art? The Tofte Lake Center at Norm’s Fish Camp near Ely, Minnesota will host its third annual weeklong artist retreat for a Minnesota artist who exemplifies the spirit, passions, and values of artist and nature lover Gaia Fenna. This will be the week of September 25-October 1 in 2017.

For Gaia, physical activity and art were a means of self-expression, self-definition — in her DNA. At Tofte Lake Center, Gaia’s love of art and nature were perfectly combined. Surrounded by the beauty of this location, she spent many memorable days and nights creating all forms of art. She took time each day to commune with her spirit by hiking, biking, and kayaking. She has left her fingerprints all over Tofte Lake Center, touching both the people and property, as well as the world around her.

The Emerging Artists Program Open December 15

Tofte Lake Center is also sponsoring its 8th annual Emerging Artists Program which enables both individual creative artists and a collaborative team of artists to take time and attention to focus on their current work. This program subsidizes two one-weeklong residencies for 7 emerging artists and/or 2-3 person creative teams from the Minnesota and the 5 boroughs of New York, and 1 week-long residency for a performing arts project that would have exclusive use of the facilities. Please note that applicants must live in either MN or one of the 5 NYC boroughs to be eligible to apply.

The residencies at TLC are intentionally interdisciplinary in nature. Artists from several disciplines can apply: playwriting, poetry, prose writing, painting, music composition, and dance. We would be happy to accept applicants who sculpt, produce films, are photographers, work with crafts; we are, however, more limited in terms of the materials we can provide. The underlying philosophy is to provide space and means of support for individual artists wishing to further their creative endeavors in the visual, literary or performing arts. The dramaturgical assistance of TLC director Liz Engelman is available if desired.

Group Project Week: July 17-23, 2017

Individual Artist/Creative Team weeks: Planning is in progress-please stay tuned!
