Le Vent du Nord

(Warren, Mn) – Northwest Minnesota Arts Council, Arts Midwest World Tour Fest, and the Thief River Falls School District are pleased to announce the week-long artist residency of internationally acclaimed music group Le Vent du Nord. A progressive folk music group, Le Vent du Nord is an ensemble group that infuses the fun and high energy of a Saturday night kitchen jam, with old Quebec flavor and a fresh, cosmopolitan air.

Le Vent du Nord has an impressive array of awards including two Junos (Canada’s Grammys), a Canadian Folk Music Award and much more! They are world travellers and it will be great to bring their brand of Canadian Folk Music to Thief River Falls. The group will be teaching, singing, and sharing their culture with area students and adults in northwest Minnesota February 15th through the 20th. Area students will participate in a variety of classes through out the week at Thief River Falls Public Schools. The general public is invited to attend a FREE COMMUNITY DANCE Thursday February 18th, 2016 from 7:30p -8:30p at The Eagles Club in Thief River Falls. Interested parties will be able to dance, snack and learn about Quebec’s folk music with special guests, The O’Neil Family Band.

Listen to Ron West of Pioner 90.1 interview group member, Olivier Demers! Great interview from the road!

There will also be a MASTER CLASS scheduled on Friday February 19th, 2016 but time and location still have to be determined!  Community members are invited to attend The Work Sessions: 10a and 1pm on Friday February 19th, 2016 at NCTC’s auditorium.

Le Vent du Nord will have an exclusive performance for the public on Saturday February 20th at the Lincoln High School Auditorium at 7:00PM. Tickets will be $5.00 dollars at the door with a Family Maximum of $30.00. This concert is sponsored in part by the Thief River Falls School District and Northwest Minnesota Arts Council.

More about Arts Midwest World Tour Fest:

Arts Midwest World Fest Tour is an initiative to bring international musical ensembles to Midwest Communities or an intensive week long residency.  The goal is to foster an understanding of and appreciation for global uniqueness and differences.

Each cycle of Arts Midwest World Fest occurs over a two-year period in which four global musical ensembles conduct week long intensive residencies in selected communities throughout the Midwest. The residencies consist of school concerts, workshops, and outreach activities, and culminate in a public concert.

To extend the cultural experience to the classroom, Arts Midwest provides participating communities with a curriculum that helps students and teachers better understand and appreciate the customs and traditions of the visiting ensembles. The hope is that studying other cultures will spark a lasting curiosity in both teachers and students that will result in further exploration of the diverse and fascinating cultures of the world.

A program of Arts Midwest, the 2015–2017 Arts Midwest World Fest cycle is generously supported by the National Endowment for the Arts and 3M Foundation. Additional support is provided by the Government of Quebec in Chicago for Le Vent du Nord. This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
